The confinement of laying hens in battery cages is now very rampant among small scale farmers. Battery Cages deny egg laying hens the ability to engage in natural behaviors. Today we are in Ruwa at Dzimbabwe conference centre educating the farmers who keep laying hens, on the impact of battery cages on laying hen welfare. We are educating the farmers on animal cruelty laws and how battery cages violate the fundamental freedoms of an animal as well as encouraging them to adopt to a free range system. Awareness trainings help to give a farmer a better understanding why battery cages are a cause of concern in regard to hen welfare. Our aim is to have ana impact in curbing animal cruelty in egg laying hens and animals at large.
