our work

Farmed Animals

AAI utilizes the law to help improve the well-being of farmed animals in Zimbabwe. We campaign to improve the lives of farmed animals (chickens and pigs) by creating laws to ban cages. AAI directly engages farmers and educates them on higher animal welfare standards to improve the livelihoods of nonhuman animals and transition poultry farmers from battery cages to cage-free systems for layer hens. AAI signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development on 5 June 2023. This is a milestone development as through this partnership we aim to reduce the suffering of animals in agriculture by conducting training and workshops raising awareness on animal welfare issues. Specifically, we aim to educate stakeholders such as agricultural officers, and veterinary officers on animal cruelty laws, animal welfare standards, and laws impacting animals in agriculture, poultry, and livestock farming issues. Together we will engage in programs to educate communities on the laws that affect animals, ways to prevent animal abuse/cruelty, improve laws and policies to protect animals, and facilitate the establishment of better animal welfare conditions for animals in agriculture in Zimbabwe. AAI advocate for use of alternatives to reduce the suffering of animals raised for food.

Community Education Programs

AAI conduct awareness programs to educate stakeholders and communities about laws protecting animals, animal welfare standards, the value of animals, and how to improve the living conditions of animals in Zimbabwe

Community outreach programs help people to appreciate animal cruelty and influence them to change bad behavior that cause suffering of animals. We make and distribute literature that educate people about reducing the suffering of animals.

Wildlife

Wild animals play a critical role in our environment and ecosystem. If wild animals become extinct the environment ceases to exist. Due to poaching wild animals’ populations are declining. To protect wild animals from becoming extinct, AAI raise awareness about wildlife crime from the grassroots level.

We educate stakeholders, communities and students about the importance of wildlife and how to preserve wildlife for the benefit of present and future generations. AAI support the strengthening of existing wildlife laws. The AAI is committed to protecting wildlife.

School Clubs

We offer educational wildlife protection and conservation and animal welfare club programs in private and government schools in order to increase public knowledge and appreciation of animal welfare issues. Children are future animal protection / wildlife conservation leaders and we firmly believe the value of teaching children how to be kind and compassionate towards animals at a tender age. Our goal is to make sure the learners grasp the five welfare needs.

1: Live in a suitable environment

2: Eat suitable diet

3: Exhibit normal behavior patterns

4: Live in their correct environment or be housed in a conducive environment

5: Must be protected from pain, hunger, suffering, disease and injury.

Animal Advocacy / Lobbying & Litigation

Animal advocacy is pivotal in protecting animals. We promote humane solutions to animal welfare. We advocate against any form of cruelty against animals through stakeholder and public  engagement and enactment of better animal law policies in Zimbabwe.

We help with drafting comprehensive animal protection bills that incorporate stiff penalties for animal abuse. We provide legal support and advocate for effective implementation and enforcement of animal laws. We fight for stronger laws that protect animals and hold animal abusers accountable

Plant-Based Agriculture

Plant-based agriculture is the practice of cultivating crops for food, fuel, and other uses without relying on animal products or byproducts. This approach emphasizes the use of plant-based alternatives to traditional animal-based products, such as soy-based meat substitutes or nut-based milk products. Plant-based agriculture is becoming increasingly popular as consumers become more aware of the environmental and health benefits of a plant-based diet. By reducing reliance on animal agriculture, plant-based agriculture can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other negative environmental impacts associated with livestock production. It also offers a more sustainable approach to food production, as it requires less land, water, and other resources than traditional animal agriculture.

Overall, plant-based agriculture is an important component of sustainable food systems, and its continued growth and development can help support a healthier, more environmentally responsible future for all.
