In as much as human rights are protected by the law through various legislation, animals also have rights which are protected by legislation through statutes . Acts of cruelty against animals are criminalised under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act . The law is in existence but public awareness campaigns compliment the laws in ensuring protection and acknowledgement of these animal rights .Today our team conducted a campaign in Goromonzi where people were trained about the free range system in regard to egg laying hens .Battery cages tend to have a negating effect on the welfare of the egg laying hens which our team explained to the farmers .Our message is clear .Battery cages are cruel to hens. If a journey of a thousand miles is initiated by a step,let’s take a step together in ensuring the protection of our farmed animals. #farmedanimalprotection
