Egg-laying hens will have no access to roam and search for food. They can’t show behavior such as scratching, preening, and dust bathing. Roaming and natural foraging allows chickens to live a fuller, more active, and enriched life, scratching the ground looking for insects and seeds. Confining the chickens and denying them access to roam around is cruel. Causing unnecessary suffering of animals is an offense under the Zimbabwean Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Hens must be free and have enough space to move around. Free range systems offer more freedom to chickens. Ease of movement is a must.
