Did you know that animals fall into different categories namely companion, domestic, wild, exotic and livestock or domesticated animals? The categories can overlap into each other for instance a dog is both a companion and domestic animal. Dogs are livestock or pets depending on their purpose and / usage. When dogs are used for work on the farm, they are livestock. Livestock usually refers to traditional farm animals. Birds can either be wild or companion. The relationship between animals and humans also help to determine whether or not to classify the animal as companion or wild.
